It sounds straightforward but is actually quite a journey. One that AnantVed Research Labs has all the inroads to due to the foundational work of Vaidya Anant Nitsure in studying the applications of smoke therapy.

Dhumapana is the practice of igniting medicinal herbs and inhaling their smoke as explained by Ayurveda. If incorporated in one’s routine, this form of herbal smoke therapy can have many respiratory benefits, including expectorant relief. Temburini and Maruk are tobacco-free herbal smokables that have been envisioned with the idea of imparting similar therapeutic and medicinal uses without any of the addictive drawbacks of smoking. It sounds straightforward but is actually quite a journey. How does Maruk/Temburini help in the cessation of Tobacco smoking?

Herbal smoke therapy (Dhumapana) is facilitated by smoke inhalers or dhumayantra. These instruments have been researched keenly in Dr. Nitsure’s body of work which was expanded by AVRL to create Maruk and Temburini. Temburini is a hand-made smokable that looks somewhat like a bidi[1] . It consists of a tendu leaf rolled and stuffed with dried and cut herbs. It has a distinctive conical shape based on the porosity of the tendu leaf and can be thought of a dhumayantra visualised in its most lucid natural form. Maruk is Temburini’s contemporary sibling– manufactured by industry experts using premium grade smoking paper, its resemblance to a cigarette makes it a worthy tool for smoking cessation.

The legacy of Vaidya Anant Nitsure

AnantVed Research Labs, since its inception in 2018, has upheld Vaidya Nitsure’s legacy of experimentation. In this spirit, our R&D endeavours also focus heartily on carrying out product testing at multiple levels at Government accredited labs. We source, clean, cut and process all our own herbs and get them rolled by industry experts under our supervision. Besides their medicinal values, our smokables also have to be palatable and provide a consistently smooth sensory experience. Therefore, they are packaged with thoughtfulness, have no harmful preservatives and additives are designed to remain fresh sustainably. The finished product, having undergone recurrent testing, is branded in India and distributed across niche markets.

Global standards produced locally

Ayurvedic research and theory is slowly yet meaningfully leaving its imprints on the Indian product landscape. While making strides in commercialising smoke therapy, AVRL also endeavours to stand to global standards and recognition by filing for international patents for our products.
